Performance: "Balloonhand"
In-class performance
University of Halibut, Alberta
May 17, 2005
I also had to do this performance as a make-up thing. I was so grateful to Prof MacLeod for doing everything he could to help me graduate on time, that I did this performance as a kind of homage to one of my favorite performances of Prof's, a piece he did way back in the 1980s called Balloonhead. Prof was touched I think, but he tried not to show it too much - in fact he only gave me a B on it. He pretends he's really gruff & tough & intimidating, but I think he's a real softie inside.

Here's the first project I had to make up in Professor MacLeod's "Appropriation: When Is It Appropriate?" seminar. It took several days to construct this & unfortunately I only have this close up - I don't have an overall picture. It was pretty big & it was only up for two days - less time than it took to make! It looks random but is actually laid out very precisely according to a system derived from overlaying the fibonnaci series with some structural elements from Hesse's "Glass Bead Game." Prof took one look at it & started talking about "Zen & the Art of Artlessness," but I don't really know what he meant.

Ohmigod I can't believe it's been so long since I posted to this blog.

A LOT has happened.

I finally realized that my "Landlubber" performance was really going to wreck my chances of graduating - hel-loooo Angie - earth to Angie....

I got the Pakistani surgeon to unscrew the bolts from my legs & after just a few days I was able to hobble around enough to go to class once in awhile. Taxi-fare really put me in the poorhouse this month though! Luckily Professor MacLeod was soooo helpful & let me make up work that I'd missed, talked my other Profs into doing the same. But I did have to really cram for my Chem exam & my Foucaultics exam. I did have to take incompletes in Theory of Collage & in Bollywood Cinema, but those should be easy to make up over the summer.

Anyway, it's been really tough coming off the percocets - I had no idea they could be addictive! - so I'm gonna stop here & try to catch up posts the next couple days.
